The Sleep of
All Creatures

Solo Exhibition, Mezo Gallery, Haifa, 2022

As part of her artistic practice, the artist gathers remains from roadsides or the margins of life which she then weaves into poetic hybrid objects.

The exhibition “The sleep of All Creatures” brings together works of Steinmetz from her first year of motherhood. A year of experiences which, on the one hand, bound her tightly to the animal world and nature in general, and on the other, brought her deep into the fold of human, Israeli culture. Experiences of constant collision between the sublime, the spiritual and the corporeal, the bureaucratic and the earthbound.

“The sleep of All Creatures” presents the enduring encounter between life, death and time, made manifest and solid in the everyday that is pregnancy, birth, and raising a child.
